Zolberg-IRC Fellow: Asynchronous Learning & Design

The Asynchronous Learning & Design Fellow will work with the General and Specialized Health Technical Advisors to develop asynchronous learning tools and adapt existing content to develop learning modules that will be available for free on Kaya Connect.  The priority modules will focus on the Package of Essential Non-Communicable Disease Interventions for Humanitarian Settings (PEN-H).

Major responsibilities include: 

  • Develop training materials for asynchronous PEN-H learning modules
  • Advise the Health Technical Advisors about strategies for effective asynchronous learning through behavioral science techniques 
  • Lead the back-end development of the PEN-H learning modules using the Kaya platform 
  • Develop methods for measuring knowledge before and after the modules, and create a framework to monitor learning outcomes from the asynchronous sessions 

Student skill-sets sought:

  • Interest in program design within humanitarian contexts 
  • Experience in developing training materials for adult learners 
  • Project management skills 
  • Knowledge of humanitarian health programs 
  • Strong design skills and experience with supporting user experience design (such as user journey mapping) with non-technical audiences
  • Excellent English language and writing skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team

Skills appreciated but not required:

  • Creative, design thinking 
  • Graphic design skills
  • UX design skills 
  • Spanish, French or Arabic language skills 

Work Environment: This fellowship will work directly with the Health Technical Unit.  This fellowship is remote.

Fellowship Length: Fellowships are 20 hours/week from mid-February – mid-May 2022.

Requirements: Students must be a matriculated graduate or PhD student at The New School.

Team: The Health Technical Unit (HTU) within the Technical Excellence (TE) team provides technical assistance to IRC’s country program staff and shares what we learn to influence policy and practice. The HTU is organized in three sectors; Health (integrating general primary healthcare including sexual and reproductive health, child health, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, mental health & Psycho-Social Support), Environmental Health, and Nutrition. In 2020 the HTU supported programming in 6 regions and 34 countries. The Technical Advisors within the health team provide both general health technical assistance, and specialized technical assistance in key thematic areas such as Child Health, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and Pharmacy.
