Conference
Climate Displacement: Ensuring Justice in an Uncertain Future
Tuesday, May 6, 2025
6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Join us for this one-off event that marks the official launch of the Climiglaw Database, an innovative, publicly accessible resource that tracks global legal developments on climate displacement. Developed in partnership with Earth Refuge, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, and the Zolberg Institute of Migration and Mobility, this first-of-its-kind database serves as both a legal knowledge base and an organizing tool, empowering advocates, researchers, and policymakers to drive impactful legal action to uphold the rights of displaced communities worldwide.
Millions are displaced annually by the climate crisis, from sudden-onset disasters to corporate-driven environmental destruction. These communities face systemic rights violations such as lack of housing, healthcare, and basic services. Marginalized communities and Indigenous peoples must confront powerful corporations and complicit or unwilling governments to defend their right to remain and inherent land and cultural rights. Despite the growing number of people affected by climate displacement, no dedicated legal framework protects and upholds their rights.
At this launch event, we will be joined by an esteemed panel of experts who will discuss the legal, policy, and human rights dimensions of climate displacement and explore how this new resource can shape future litigation and advocacy strategies.
We look forward to welcoming you to this important conversation as we take a major step toward advancing justice for those displaced by climate change.
Presented by the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School for Social Research and The New School.
