Role: As part of the Global Research Agenda (GRA), the ERICC RPC is conducting Multi-Country Studies (MCS) on three overarching themes in five conflict and/or crisis-affected contexts. These include:

MCS-1: Pathways for Learning (holistic learning outcomes)

MCS-3: Teachers in Conflict and Crisis (teacher professional development, support, wellbeing, management)

MCS-4: Education System Preparedness Against Shocks (climate and education)

Each of these studies are mixed-methods, including both quantitative and qualitative data methods. While quantitative data collection is completed or ongoing across all four MCS-1 & 3 contexts, qualitative data collection is set to begin between October and November. The ERICC RPC is seeking a Fellow to support the IRC, UCL, and country partner colleagues with data coding and analysis of qualitative data, as well as support to quantitative researchers with the writing of publications and other outputs based on the data gathered and analyzed by research teams.

In this role, fellows will work closely with their advisors as well as the Principal and Co-Principal Investigators (PI & Co-PI) and education research teams at IRC and UCL, as well as with any country partner representative, as needed. Applicants with quantitative data analysis skills may also be asked to support the quant research teams with data analysis depending on skillset and available time.

The Airbel Impact Lab designs, tests, and scales life-changing cost-effective solutions for people affected by conflict and disaster. By applying the IRC’s deep technical expertise and field experience with a range of skills from the behavioral sciences, human-centered design, research, and multi-disciplinary problem-solving in humanitarian contexts, we work to develop breakthrough solutions that combine creativity and rigor, openness and expertise, and a desire to think afresh with the experience of a large-scale implementing organization.

Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crisis (ERICC) is a three-year Education in Emergencies (EiE) research programme funded by the British Foreign Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and comprised of four main components:

  1. Research on the most effective approaches to education in conflict and protracted crisis,
  2. In-Country Operational Support,
  3. Promoting research uptake across FCDO and the international community, and
  4. Knowledge Systems Strengthening

The IRC leads the ERICC Research programme Consortium (RPC), comprised of IRC and eight of the World’s leading research organizations focused on education in crisis and conflict settings, which is tasked with delivering Components 1 & 2 of the programme in seven FCDO focal countries and contexts – namely Bangladesh (Cox’s Bazar), Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Syria. ERICC seeks to conduct rigorous research on what works, for whom, when, and at what cost in all ERICC focal contexts in order to present specific recommendations to positively impact Education policy and practice.
