Queering Immigration Conference

August final versionThis three-day event is organized by The Queer Detainee Empowerment Project (QDEP) in partinership with the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility (ZIMM). QDEP is a collective alternative to detention program and community organizing project for trans/queer/HIV+ immigrant detainees, undocumented folks, asylum seekers and their families in New York City. QDEP a member of the Detention Watch Network and the International Detention Coalition. This year will be the second edition of the Queering Immigration Conference, and it is again a partnership between ZIMM and QDEP. Last year the event brought over 75 folks from over 30 organizations nationally to build a broader, more queer immigration support network, and we’re ready to do it again this year!

Queering Immigration brings together organizers, attorneys, and social service workers from across the country to discuss issues of immigration detention in securing structural, health/wellness, educational, legal, and emotional support and services. It seeks to build a trans and queer narrative and to queer the dialog and work in the immigration justice movement.
