The Humanities Action Lab (HAL) – A Global Dialogue on Incarceration

The Humanities Action Lab (HAL) – a Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility working group – held its first forum and session here at the New School on January 5th. An initiative spearheaded by both Liz Sevcenko and Claire Potter, the HAL working group aims to

“bring together stakeholders from around the world to create traveling public projects and exhibitions on the past, present, and future of pressing social issues. Its first initiative, Global Dialogues on Incarceration, addresses the United States’ position as the world’s leader in incarceration: It imprisons more of its people than any other country, and more now than at any other time in its history.”

Renée de la Torre has a Masters degree in communication studies, from ITESO, and a PhD in Social Sciences, specializing in Social Anthropology, from the University of Guadalajara. Since 1993 she has been working as a Researcher and Professor of Anthropology at CIESAS (Centre for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology), in Guadalajara, Mexico.
